An online promotion and communication conference on the biomedicine industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was held on July 28 through a live stream between Guangzhou Science City and Sino-German Science and Education Park in Heidelberg, Germany.
The conference was hosted by Guangzhou Development District (GDD) and undertaken by SCI Group and the Guangzhou Development District Offshore Innovation Center in Heidelberg.
The conference was the first cross-border international online communication event on biomedicine held by GDD in recent years, gathering experts and industrial pioneers to share their expertise and suggestions.
The event focused on new methods and models for the development of the biomedicine industry in the Greater Bay Area under the COVID-19 pandemic, offering an excellent opportunity for European biomedical companies to learn more about GDD's biomedicine development.
Sophie Sun, managing director of Merck Innovation Hub in China, said that the group has set up the Merck Guangdong Innovation Hub in Guangzhou International Bio Island, being the first of its kind established in the Greater Bay Area.
Sun added that the innovation hub will team up with GDD to carry out innovation in areas like life sciences and high performance materials.
Eckart Wurzner, mayor of Heidelberg, noted that Heidelberg has clustered many world-class research institutions and industrial clusters in areas like biomedicine and artificial intelligence.
Wurzner said that China and Germany have set up offshore innovation centers in both countries and that the city is willing to explore more opportunities for communication and cooperation with GDD.
